Particle accelerators have been the primary tool of particle physics for over 60 years. They have enabled great advances and discoveries, the latest being the discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

The International Linear Collider, or the ILC, is the next advance in accelerators which will collide electron and its anti-particle, positron. The ILC will enable precision studies of the underlying physics of the Higgs, a completely new kind of particle responsible for the creation of mass in nature.

We are technically prepared to build this new collider. Japan is seriously considering offering to host the ILC for the global collaboration, siting it in the mountains of Japan. They propose to begin with a Higgs Factory and extend it to higher energies in the future. This possibility is now being considered both within Japan and by the worldwide community.

Organization

In August 2020, International Committee for Future Accelerator (https://icfa.fnal.gov) approved the formation of the International Linear Collider International Development Team (IDT) as the first step towards the preparatory phase of the ILC project, with a mandate to make preparations for the ILC Pre-Lab in Japan.

The ILC International Development Team will work towards making a timely realization of the ILC possible.

The Team is hosted by KEK and consists of the Executive Board and three Working Groups.

Executive Board

The Executive Board comprises a Chair, a member from each of the three regions contributing to the ILC effort (Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe), and three ex-officio members (KEK liaison officer and Chairs of Working Group 2 and Working Group3, whereas Working Group1 is chaired by the Chair of Executive Board. The Executive Board has the overall responsibility for the Pre-Lab preparation.

Membership of Executive Board
Tatsuya Nakada EPFL -- Chair
Andrew Lankford UC Irvine -- Representative for Americas
Geoffrey Taylor Melbourne -- Representative for Asia-Pacific
Steinar Stapnes CERN -- Representative for Europe
Shinichiro Michizono KEK -- IDT-WG2 Chair
Hitoshi Murayama UC Berkeley -- IDT-WG3 Chair
Yasuhiro Okada KEK -- KEK Liaison

Working Group 1

The Working Group1 will carry out the key tasks of developing the function and organisational structure for the Pre-Lab, together with the Executive Board. They will support the preparation of Memoranda of Understanding among the national laboratories and other interested parties for the operation of the Pre-Lab and will support discussions at the national authority level.
